Frequently Asked Questions

R3 Recovery Services is located at 618 Columbia Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603. Call (717) 601-2555 or email info@r3recoveryservices.com.
We’ll verify your insurance benefits at no cost and walk you through what starting treatment actually involves.

Getting Started

What happens on my first day?

Your first day starts with a biopsychosocial intake assessment, we review your substance use history, mental health, and life circumstances to build a treatment plan tailored to you. From there, we place you at the right level of care (PHP, IOP, or GOP) and introduce you to your counselor and case manager. Most people leave day one with a clear roadmap instead of more uncertainty.

How long does the intake take?

Most outpatient intake assessments run 120 minutes. Call us at (717) 601-2555 to confirm and to schedule.

What should I bring?

Typically we ask you to bring a photo ID, insurance card, list of current medications, and any recent treatment/discharge paperwork. Confirm with our admissions team before your appointment.

Can I start treatment this week?

In many cases, yes, we work to get new members screened and started quickly rather than making you wait. The fastest way to find out is to call us at (717) 601-2555 or submit our online application, and one of our team members will follow up directly.

What if I'm nervous?

That’s normal, and we’ve built our intake process to meet you where you are, no judgment, just honest conversation. Our values center on honesty, respect, and courage to face the truth, and that starts with your first phone call to us, not after you’ve “proven” anything.

Can someone come with me?

Most outpatient programs welcome a support person at intake with the client’s consent, confirm with us directly when you schedule.

How do I know if I need OP, IOP, or PHP?

We determine level of care using ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria, the industry standard for matching treatment intensity to clinical need. Your intake assessment looks at substance use severity, recent sobriety, home environment, and support system so we can recommend PHP, IOP, or GOP. You don’t have to diagnose yourself; that’s what our assessment is for.

What if I relapse before my intake?

Tell us, it won’t disqualify you, and it’s important clinical information. It will help us determine if the intake is still appropriate or if you need higher level of care. Our program is built around meeting you at Step 1 wherever that starts, including after a relapse. If you’re in active withdrawal or medical danger, call 911 or go to the nearest ER first, then follow up with us.

Substance-Specific Questions

Do you treat alcohol addiction?

Yes. Alcohol use disorder is one of the most common reasons people come to us, and we build treatment around individualized, evidence-based counseling (CBT, MI, DBT, ACT) rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum.

Opioids?

Yes, we work with clients recovering from opioid use, including heroin and prescription opioids, through our outpatient counseling and case management model. If you’re currently on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) or need a prescriber, ask us how we coordinate with outside MAT providers.

Methamphetamine?

Yes. Our outpatient and PHP programs address stimulant use, including methamphetamine, with individualized treatment planning and regular accountability testing.

Cocaine?

Yes, we treat cocaine and other stimulant use disorders within our IOP, GOP, and PHP tracks using the same individualized, evidence-based approach we apply to other substances.

Marijuana?

Yes. We address cannabis use disorder through the same outpatient counseling framework, especially when it’s contributing to broader substance use or interfering with daily functioning.

Gambling?

Yes. We address gambling disorder through the same outpatient counseling framework, especially when it’s interfering with daily functioning.

Multiple substances?

Yes, our assessment and 10-Step program are built for polysubstance use, which is common. Your treatment plan is individualized rather than substance-specific, so using more than one substance doesn’t complicate your ability to get started with us.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Do you offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

No, R3 Recovery Services does not provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) directly. However, we work closely with trusted referral partners who can help individuals start MAT or continue their existing MAT services when appropriate.

Who determines whether I need medication?

Medical necessity for any medication is a clinical decision, typically made by our Medical Director in coordination with your counselor during and after intake, never something we expect you to figure out on your own.

Can I continue medications from another provider?

Bring a current medication list and any prescriber contact information to intake so our clinical team can coordinate your care rather than interrupt it.

Family

Can my family participate?

Yes. Family involvement is an important part of our holistic approach to recovery. One of the six focus areas in our workshop curriculum is dedicated to rebuilding relationships and addressing the impact addiction has had on loved ones.
While family participation is not required, it is strongly encouraged when appropriate. We understand that family members may live out of state or have work and personal commitments, so we offer flexible options, including weekend participation when possible.

Do you offer family counseling?

While we do not provide traditional family counseling services, our program includes a dedicated relationships and family-focused track designed to help clients rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen important relationships.
Our case managers also support clients through aftercare planning and provide guidance on creating healthier family connections throughout the recovery process.

How can my family support me?

The most helpful support families can provide is staying involved while encouraging accountability. Recovery requires both compassion and structure, which is why our approach combines support with accountability measures, including regular drug testing.
Family members who understand and reinforce healthy boundaries can play an important role in helping recovery become sustainable. Your case manager can provide guidance tailored to your family’s unique situation.

What if my spouse also needs treatment?

At this time, we do not provide treatment for both partners simultaneously within our program. However, our team can help connect your spouse or partner with trusted referral partners who can provide the appropriate support and treatment resources.
Our goal is to ensure that each individual receives the care they need while supporting both partners throughout their separate recovery journeys.

What happens after I finish treatment?

Through our Legacy Program (Step 10 of our 10-Step Roadmap), graduates stay connected with the R3 community through ongoing fellowship events and alumni support.

Do you offer alumni groups?

Crisis Situations

What if I'm in withdrawal today?

If you’re in active withdrawal, especially from alcohol or benzodiazepines, that can be medically dangerous, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right now. We’re an outpatient provider, not a detox facility; our 10-Step program is designed for clients who’ve completed detox/inpatient care or achieved 30 days of continuous sobriety. Once you’re medically stable, we’re here to help with next steps.

What if I'm suicidal?

If you’re in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) right now, or call 911 if you’re in immediate danger. We support our clients during business hours, and if you’re in immediate distress or a medical emergency, please call 911 or your local emergency services first.

What if I relapse?

Tell your counselor, we treat relapse as clinical information, not a disqualifier, and our weekly random urinalysis exists to catch and address it early rather than punish it. If a relapse involves an overdose risk, get emergency medical help first.

What if I miss several sessions?

Attendance and consistency are important parts of the recovery process. Our team works with you to create a schedule that fits your availability and supports your treatment goals.
If you miss multiple sessions, we will have a conversation to better understand any barriers or challenges you are experiencing and work together on an action plan to help you stay engaged in your recovery journey.

What if I'm homeless tonight

Call us at (717) 601-2555 and ask for case management, connecting you to affordable/emergency housing resources is a core part of what we do. If it’s outside business hours and you’re in immediate danger, contact 911 or a local shelter/crisis line.

Outcomes

What does success look like?

For us, success isn’t just sobriety, we measure it across our 10-Step Roadmap through sobriety milestones (30, 60, 120, 180+ days) alongside progress in six “collateral damage” areas: finances, relationships, occupation/education, mental/brain health, spirituality, and legal standing.

How do you measure progress?

We track progress through our 10-Step Roadmap’s built-in milestones, ongoing clinical assessment, and objective accountability tools like weekly random urinalysis and saliva testing.

What happens if someone relapses?

Relapse triggers a clinical response from us, not automatic discharge, it’s addressed through your counselor and case manager, and may adjust your level of care or session frequency depending on severity.

How do you support long-term recovery?

Through our Legacy Program (Step 10), monthly alumni fellowship events designed to keep our former clients connected to a sober community well past their last formal session with us.

Treatment Programs

What's the difference between OP, IOP, and PHP?

Our programs offer different levels of care based on your individual needs while following ASAM guidelines.

  • PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program): Our most intensive level of care, offering structured treatment with furnished, needs-based housing.
  • IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program): A step down from PHP, with multiple group sessions each week that gradually taper as you progress.
  • OP (Outpatient Program): Our least intensive level of care, providing ongoing support while allowing greater flexibility for work, school, and daily life.

Learn more about our levels of care on our website.

How many hours per week is each program?

How do you decide when someone graduates?

Learn more about our levels of care on our website.

Can I move between levels of care?
