What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

The 10-Step Roadmap

Insurance and Cost
R3 is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Highmark, Anthem, Independence Blue Cross, Capital Blue Cross, United Health Care, Optum, and we are OON with Aetna, Cigna, and Geisinger. Most clients pay a copay or coinsurance rather than the full cost of treatment.
Not sure if you’re covered? Call (717) 583-8851 and we’ll verify your benefits for free — usually the same day — and tell you what you’d actually pay before you commit to anything.

Drug Testing and Accountability
Accountability is an important part of building a strong foundation in recovery. At R3 Recovery Services, we use random urinalysis and saliva testing as a tool to support honesty, awareness, and continued progress throughout treatment.
Members may participate in unannounced testing, with samples sent to an outside laboratory for confirmation when needed. These screenings are not about punishment—they are about creating structure, reinforcing personal responsibility, and helping individuals stay connected to their recovery goals.
Recovery requires honesty, commitment, and support. Through accountability measures like drug testing, clinical care, and community connection, R3 helps members build the confidence and skills needed for lasting change.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is IOP at R3?
Approximately 60 days, following 30 days in PHP for most clients. Length is clinically determined and reviewed with your therapist.
Can I work while in IOP?
Yes, the IOP schedule is extremely flexible and we offer both day time and evening options.
What's the difference between IOP and GOP?
IOP (Intensive Outpatient) is three to five group sessions per week plus individual therapy. GOP (General Outpatient) is roughly one group and one individual session per week. Most R3 clients move from IOP to GOP as they stabilize — it’s a planned step down, not a lesser program.
Do I need to complete inpatient before IOP?
You need either a completed inpatient stay or a period of continuous sobriety. That’s Step 1 of our roadmap.
What therapies does R3 use in IOP?
Our clinicians are trained in CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, and ACT, and use a trauma-informed approach. Treatment plans are individualized.
Does R3 drug test?
Yes — random, unannounced urinalysis and saliva testing weekly, with outside lab confirmation.
